recalling story telling

the subject of today’s meeting was grandiose one – “Artificial General intelligence – myths, methods, madness.

expected a wholesome menu of information. disappointment may be due to my lack of attention but the whole thing was a long winded statements. brig gupta said at the beginning that questions should be resaved to the end. a bit of dampener. it ceased to be dialogue and became a monologue,

the speaker is introduced as a story teller. wonder what it means. in the journalism, every news coverage is called story, never a report what it actually is. so also with our story teller. to break the monologue, some photos are exhibited while speaker is speaking. whether the photos have any relevance to the theme is secondary issue but they are on the screen much too long to be interesting. a video or two would have been more welcome.

china is much more advanced than other countries in the matter of automation and united states is a distant second but that is hardly justification for dwelling too long on it. myth was conspicuous by absence. Artificial intelligence is rapid analysis of huge amount of data, no myth about it. robotics have a role to play but how are they related to artificial intelligence is not explained.

i had a question – how does ai help in coding. it is a much advertised achievement and i am not sure how it is done. there was a long answer but i am sorry to say, i am not wiser about it now.

maybe the fault is mine. having done the data mining a long time ago when we launched our company led me to believe that ai will improve on it. it has. the results are now put in a readable form but ai can only supply information that has been put in the public domain by use of internet. neither gpt nor copilot are able to get at the information without use of pass keys. it is nit the fault of ai but its limitation.

a word about robotics. it was said that robots can now sweep the roads. my son told about how robots serve breakfast in the rook in shanghai.  that was ten years back. i have seen 3d in action. i have seen the stacking by robots. my son is working on that and hope to strike new avenues. there are immense possibilities in ai like chemistry experiments mixing of chemicals on instruction and showing the result thereof. a remote chemistry laboratory. a japanese company is working on it.

in short, the two hours long session left many questions unanswered like general khurana question on how fakery can be avoided. how human failure can impact it . can garbage in, garbage out syndrome can be avoided.

a word on use of ai be railways. you can name the train and the website gives you the running position of the train and you can choose from 1500 trains. our story teller said that railway data is in isolated and integration is still to come. the artificial intelligence can do it but it has already been done.

any way good to hear about it and to think about it, so thanks to vijay ramachandran for his storytelling and iccfg for organizing it.
