this is an extract from a book written in the beginning of last century. the writer is mirza haider delhvi. the book has been reprinted by urdu academy delhi. it mainly deals with the case against last mughal king bahadur shah zafar and the royal durbar held in delhi in 1903. but as an introduction, this passage and certain comments about hindi writers are there. just for curious people, these views are given here about hindi.

उर्दू की तारीख

जिस तरह प्यार के मारे बच्चों का असली नाम के इलावा दूसरा नाम रख लेते हैं, इसी तरह उर्दू प्यार का नाम है जो कि बजाए हिन्दुस्तानी के बोला जाता है. हिन्दुस्तानी कहने से यह मालूम हो जाये गा कि यह ज़बान जो अपने दुसरे नाम उर्दू के साथ मशहूर है तमाम हिंदुस्तान की ज़बान है. किसी ज़बान कि मजाल नहीं कि इस को आँख भर कर देख सके. उर्दू की असल हिंदी है जो आर्य हफ्त ज़बान मैं से एक है जो श्माली हिंद मैं कहीं कहीं बोली जाती है. बाकि कि छह ज़बानें पंजाबी, सिन्धी, गुजराती, मराठी, बंगाली और उऱिया हैं. मगर यह मादूद मकामात में बोली जाती है और इन का रवाज ज़यादा नहीं है.
