cycling and democracy
whenever, i see a person riding a bicycle, i think of democracy.
there is an intimate connection between cycling and democracy.
after all what is democracy?
1. equality of opportunity
2. no rights due to birth
3. let the best man (or woman) win
cycle ensures all his.
1. how far will you go will depend on your stamina, your strength. not on the cycle you get.
2. birth may give you a better cycle raileigh or may give you a hind cycle or atlas but you have to paddle and paddle hard to be first in the race. the make of cycle is not important.
3. cycling power does not depend upon sex. both are equal.
what democracy must do is to provide everyone with cycle that is minimum livelihood opportunity.
(note – this was written in fifties when no scooters and motor cycles were around. just recounted )
